Blue: Brighten Things Up When You're Feeling Down
A downloadable game
A Game To Play When You're Feeling Blue:
Blue is an experimental two-page TTRPG that is designed to be played when you’re feeling down, unmotivated or stuck in a rut. It makes those everyday tasks that may seem difficult to overcome into fun little Quests.
Blue offers positive progression that should help you experience new things, break repetitive thought patterns, enjoy the tasks you once found challenging and build healthy routines. It's also completely free to download, so if you need a pick-me-up (or know someone who does) you can grab a copy right away!
How To Play:
When you play Blue, pick a Thread. Threads are the plot-lines you will play through. In order to complete your Thread, you must complete Quests. Quests are real-life challenges that you face, like doing the dishes, working on a passion project or exploring somewhere new. Whenever you complete one of these challenges in real life, the Thread you are playing progresses.
For example, if you play the 'Random Encounter!' Thread you must battle a monster. This monster has a number of Hit Points equal to the number of Quests in the Thread. Whenever you complete a Quest, you reduce the monster's HP by 1.
Quests could be anything from writing down a quality you love about yourself to meditating for 10 minutes. They could be anything from doing the laundry you've been putting off to having a kind conversation with a friend. Completing Quests will help you break unhealthy thought patterns, spur you to action and hopefully help brighten your mood.
Once its HP hits 0, you've defeated the monster and completed the Thread! Not only have you progressed in the game, you've performed a lot of healthy, feel-good actions in your real life!
Author's Note:
I created Blue because I was feeling… well, blue. I, like many people, am prone to feeling down, discouraged and unmotivated, and I wanted to create a game that could help people like me shake off those feelings and get back to our normal selves.
I can only assume that if you’re reading this you have a similar outlook on life as I do. I’d just like to say that if you do, try not to worry. It might seem like the clouds will never part and the gloom will never fade but it will. It takes time (which is annoying) but before long you’ll feel that weight lifting. I hope this game can go some small way to helping you out of whatever rough patch you find yourself in but just know that when you do start feeling better, it’ll be because of your hard work, determination and spirit. You’re stronger than you think!

I got this game for a friend with ADHD who had a major weekend crisis. I "modded" it to be two players so I was like a GM, sorting their tasks into fantastical quest language like the quests were put up in the local adventuring guild to be taken by them instead of just a list of chores.
They still drew the creatures themselves and told me and some other friends about the magic of the quests. It was such a great way to make all the chores they had to do feel less like a punishment and more like a game we were playing together!
Overall a wonderful game for bringing magic and play into daily life!
This is honestly such a beautiful story, I'm so glad it could add a little magic into you and your friend's day. Thank you so much for sharing!
A Greetings,
My name is Teresa Guido, I am a professional artist, can i share with you my portfolio for future projects, if interested?
Hope to hear back from you soon.
Many Thanks,
Teresa Guido
I tried it for an evening. And I love it ! I think I will try using the game every day (a thread per day maybe ?) to (re)create healthy life habits and a variable routine to cope with my issues in a productive and creative way ! I really love how it just "gamifies" life. Very cool idea.
This looks neat! I don't suppose there's a low-ink version on the horizon? The white-on-blue looks pretty, but the right panels seem a bit low-contrast for my eyes.
Hey Ed, thanks for the interest!
There's a Low-Ink version available now :)
Thanks! I've printed that and will be reading it soon :)
